My Christian Yoga Routine

☀️ Hi, friends! ☀️

If you’re reading this, wow! I’m so glad you stayed with me for Weekend of Posts. It’s been super fun posting once again, and you were so supportive of yesterday’s post. If you missed yesterday, visit Why I’m in Love with Christian Yogato read a little background.

Last week, I mentioned a YouTube channel called Caroline Williams Yoga. In this post, I’d like to talk about my routine: what I wear, which flows I enjoy most, and some yoga goals I have set for myself.

If you’re ready for another day of fun in the sun, I am, so let’s dive right in!

1. outfit

Yoga isn’t as vigorous (or sweaty) as other exercise, so it’s all about comfort. (To all the girls who HATE getting sweaty: this is occasion for an AMEN!!)

Since I’m not technically “in a class,” I don’t have to wear a certain type of clothing (hello pajamas), but I like to wear the appropriate yoga clothes all the same.

pants

I know what a lot of you are thinking: “yoga pants.” Guess what? I’ve never worn yoga pants while practicing. I like to slip on some pajama pants or some cheap leggings from Walmart (you can get the athletic kind if that’s your thing). You do not have to drop fifty bucks at a sports store just to practice.

top

Tee. Shirts. I’m talking mission trip shirts, volunteer shirts, that shirt you bought at Walmart but never wear… each and every one of those will serve perfectly. Tank tops from Nike are great, but they’re not super practical for your wallet. If you wanna go cheap and easy… WEAR. A. TEE. SHIRT.

shoes

None. Barefoot is the way to go! Your feet won’t slip on whatever surface you practice on, and it feels lighter on your body than say, tennis shoes. If you have to have something on your feet, wear tennis shoes that aren’t super tight on your feet. (Do make sure they’re tied safely, though. I don’t want to be the subject of angry monologues about people falling and hurting themselves because of me…)

hair

Go crazy! If you feel like a ponytail, do it. If you’re wanting to try out a messy bun, go for it. Or just leave it down! There’s no wrong way to do this- or any of this, for that matter. Be yourself and do what makes you feel comfortable and energized.

2. workouts

After you’re dressed for practice, it’s time to actually practice. I usually try to do 2 yoga flows a day, but you can do one or even more if you feel so inclined. There are different flows for morning, “main workouts,” and evening, so I’ll share my favorites for each time of day.

morning

I don’t know about you, but when I wake up, the last thing I want to do is move. I’d truly love to fall asleep again, or even better- eat a cinnamon roll. (Can I get a witness? Those things are so stinkin good…) But NOPE, I’ve had a fresh dose of determination and I’m ready (or not) to take on the first workout of the day.

This gentle 12-minute morning flow is far from a slap in the face. It’s soft, quiet, and great for beginners. There are some more challenging morning flows, but I prefer this one since I’m normally super stiff when I get out of bed.
main workout
This is by far the most challenging workout of the day. I usually do this one in the late morning or afternoon, but evenings are also great for this kind of yoga flow. By this time, I’m ready for something harder than the morning workout! Core strength is crucial to becoming better at yoga and making your body stronger, so it’s one of the best choices for your second yoga flow.

Just ten minutes, friends. Yes, it’s hard. You’ll probably want to quit about five minutes in. But pushing through is possible! With every time you practice, you’ll become stronger. This yoga flow is part of the “Shot of Truth” series, where a lie that we believe about ourselves is confronted and disproved by God’s Word. I love this series! It’s so relaxing to have something to think on while practicing. Filling our minds with what the Savior says about us is one of the greatest things we can do to give us energy to push through.

evening

After a day of hard work, a gentle evening flow is the perfect way to end the night before crawling into bed. Sometimes, resting in the presence of God is the thing we need most. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, just feeling down, or craving rest, this workout is designed to calm your heart through Scripture.

This deep stretching and relaxation Christian yoga workout is only 20 minutes long, but it feels as though time slows down. We can relax. Rest. Tell God our worries, concerns, and troubles. He’s listening!

Now, go get some sleep. You deserve it!

3. yoga goals

To push myself on my way to becoming stronger at yoga, I’ve set goals for this month to try and accomplish.

• practice twice a day (it’s summer, friends!)

• drink only water (I can always improve at this!)

• try more core workouts

And there you have it! I like to keep my monthly goals list short and sweet- that makes it easier to break down and accomplish.

I hope you’ve enjoyed exploring yoga with me this weekend. I’ve loved sharing my newfound hobby with you! ❤

I’d highly encourage you to check out Caroline’s channel. She has a knack for making encouraging videos and she is such an inspiration!

Even though Weekend of Posts is over, the summer fun isn’t! Check back each Friday to read a new post on ACA. I’d love to chat with you!

Until Friday,

Next week, a special guest post from one of my dear friends will be published! Be sure to tune in to read her story and be touched by the way God speaks through her.
